(parents) Leslie Kay-Bigelow (Chair), Mike Kills enemy (new Vice Chair), Jennifer Anderson (new recording secretary), Lisa Cecckin, Lisa Green, Kevin Green,
Had Schedule conflicts:

1) Welcome
Mr. Webb welcomed returning and new Council Members and thanked them for their time.
This year Heximer’s enrolment is where it has been projected to be at 216 students. Our enrolment is expected to go up slightly next year when Heximer gets the Early Learning full day program.
Heximer has had a smooth start up this year.
Mr. Webb briefly outlined where he spends the budget given to the school (photocopy, telephone, supply teachers, furniture, technology. library and more.) He tries to ask for as little as possible from Council .
2) Open Positions
Mike Kills enemy was welcomed back as Vice Chair.
Jennifer Anderson volunteered to be our new Recording Secretary.
3) Council Blog / School Website / Newsletter
For a variety of reasons, the biggest is Heximer leaving a smaller foot print on the earth; our School Newsletter will be available on Heximer’s website. It will be available in paper form but upon request only.
Parent Prints (Parent Council’s section) will be available on our Blog site: http://heximerparentcouncil.blogspot.com/
In the very near future Council Members will have publishing permission on our Blog site. To give Council Members this tool you’ll have to ‘subscribe’ to the blog.
School Website
In October Mr.Engstrom and Leslie will be updating Heximer’s website.
4) Muskoka Woods
ReplyDeleteMr. Webb tells us that a letter will be sent home by Thanksgiving about the Intermediate (Gr. 6- 8) trip.
The students have started ideas on how they’ll raise money for the bus cost and chocolate bar sales will be used again to help the individual students offset the cost of their trip.
Lisa C has volunteered to co-ordinate this.
5) Walk-a-thon
One of our major fundraisers. Forms were sent out and due Monday October 3rd. We’ll be walking first period on Thursday Oct 6. (if raining we’ll dance in the gym).
It was decided this year to maximize our profit by not giving out pizza to the students. With this being one of many things families are being asked to contribute to (beginning of school year costs, jerseys, agendas, school trips already...) we wanted to use every dollar brought in on the school.
6) Other events
We talked about what events Council has done in the past. We’ve tried to keep fund raising to a minimum. Several events are just to give the students something “extra” at school. (i.e.) hot chocolate and pancakes.
Members were encouraged to bring ideas to future meetings.
7) Review 2010 – 2011 budget
We didn’t look at the details (they’re available at the school).
8) Set goals
ReplyDeleteAt this time Heximer has no major fundraising goals.
Mr. Webb requested the following from Council:
$500 for the school Library
$400 approx. To bring author(s) to the school
$200 to bring the Carousel Players to the school
There were no objections.
9) School Sport Shirts
An order form was sent home with the Junior & Intermediate students.
Leslie will talk with Mr. Engstrom to arrange an opportunity for the primary students to order Heximer shirts.
10) Pasta Night
In previous years this event took place in February however with our Intermediates going to Muskoka Woods in February it was decided to move this event to late March or early April.
Two members showed interest in taking on this event.
11) Parent Involvement – increasing Council members / general parental involvement in the school.
This was not discussed.
12) Year Book
ReplyDeleteStaff will be asked to use the camera / video camera that Council had purchased in previous years and submit photos on a monthly basis. Council members are strongly encouraged to take photos during school events / sports.
It was suggested that we ask students from Stamford to help with the technical part of putting our yearbook together.
13) Round Table
The issues surrounding parking were discussed.
Mr. Webb told us about a traffic study that the City had done which will limit parking on Heximer Ave. (in front of the school) in order to allow the school bus and emergency vehicles to navigate our street.
We also talked about how the school parking lots was misused and became so congested that it wasn’t safe. A letter went home to the parents about the parking lot.
A variety of ideas were discussed. Kevin is going to look into possible solutions.
Next Meeting: Last week of November
